The key question to answer is “What is it that IEC can do that individual businesses and other bodies in our industry are not able to do?”.  We believe that the IEC’s role can therefore be defined as to;

  1. Provide a central international communications hub on avian influenza ("Avian Influenza Task Force"‎), connecting all organisations that have relevant knowledge.
  2. Be responsible for communicating information and best practices to IEC members and the wider egg industry (Conferences, email, website).
  3. Be the link between the global egg industry and the OIE.

To start work on delivering these aims, IEC has developed the Action Plan on Avian Influenza, which includes the establishment of the Avian Influenza Task Force and the Avian Influenza Summit to be held at the start of the IEC Global Leadership Conference in Berlin, as well as direct meetings with OIE.

There will be two fundamental parts to the Avian Influenza Task Force‎, the “Industry Communications Network” and an “Expert Group”.

The Industry Communications Network aims to:

  • Provide a central international communications hub on avian influenza connecting all organisations that have relevant knowledge.
  • Be responsible for communicating information and best practices to IEC members and the wider egg industry.
  • Drive standards across the global egg industry to new levels of professionalism.

The Expert Group aims to:

  • Deliver big picture practical solutions to combat avian influenza in the short, medium and long term.
  • Come up with practical ways of changing the industry to move beyond this threat.
  • Pursue the ultimate long term goal of eliminating avian influenza from the egg industry.

To make this initiative truly successful over the long term we need you to contact the IEC office nominating the right world-class people to join the Avian Influenza Task Force Expert Group, as well as you participating in the Industry Communications Network.  Thank you.
