As leaders who are and will be responsible for driving the egg industry forward, during April this latest intake of Young Egg Leaders travelled to Paris where they met with World Organization for Animal Health (OIE) and the Consumer Goods Forum (CGF), along with Julian Madeley Director General of the IEC and Tim Lambert CEO of Egg Farmers of Canada and IEC Chairman.

Tim Lambert, also being one of the key drivers behind this industry programme states the importance of the YEL’s interaction with international organisations  “In today’s business world it is vital that Young Leaders are exposed to an international perspective, and understand the impact that global Organizations will have on our Industry, which is why it is so important that we provide the opportunity to meet with the World Animal Health Organization (OIE), Consumer Goods Forum (CGF) and World Health Organization (WHO)”.

The group met with Dr. Matthew Stone, OIE Deputy Director General International Standards and Science and other senior officials at the Paris Headquarters, where key items for discussion were avian influenza and global standards, particularly those related to housing of laying hens and how global standards directly impact egg businesses, as well as the OIE’s projects relating to antimicrobial use and resistance.

At the Consumer Goods Forum the group discussed the challenges and opportunities around social and environmental sustainability issues that egg industry can have impact on, with Senior CGF Directors, Didier Bergeret and Ignacio Gavilan.
