The ISO Technical Committee (TC) 34, which deals with numerous aspects on food products, recently established a new working group, WG16, to deal with animal welfare. Other A-liaison organisations that are part of the WG16 are: FAO, OIE, IDF, IMS, SSAFE, WSPCA and Eurogroup for animals. This WG16 will focus on facilitating the implementation of the OIE Animal welfare standards. While Dr. Vincent Guyonnet will represent the IEC at this WG16, the IEC also encourages its country members to contact their respective national ISO organisations to join the national working groups being created in each country involved with this work (Argentina, Australia, Canada, Colombia, Denmark, Egypt, France, Germany, India, Iran, Japan, Mali, Netherlands, Nigeria, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Thailand, UK, and USA).
ISO formally recognises IEC

ISO (International Organization for Standardization) has formally accepted the IEC as an A-liaison for the working group (WG) recently established to tackle the issue of animal welfare. Under the ISO terminology, an A-liaison organisation is an organisation that makes an effective contribution to the work and questions raised by a technical committee or subcommittee. A vote by ISO members is required to admit a new A-liaison organisation within an ISO working group. A-liaison organisations are given access to all relevant documentation, are invited to ISO meetings and can nominate experts to working groups.
