Our Goals

The IEC was established at the second International Egg Conference held in Bologna, Italy in 1964.

The IEC came into existence with the following goals:

To foster international co-operation among all sectors of the egg industry to their mutual benefit

To encourage the development of better statistics and market intelligence for shell eggs and egg products, and to collect and publish such information.

To encourage the harmonisation internationally of marketing standards for shell eggs and egg products.

To encourage the hygienic production of eggs and egg products.

To study the problems of international trade and assist in these problems.

To assist the work undertaken by international agencies in countries where the level of nutrition and food safety is inadequate.

To encourage member and non-member countries to improve the consumption of shell eggs and egg products.

To encourage improvements to the welfare of laying hens.

To encourage action to help safeguard the environment.

To establish and maintain liaison with international organisations.

To identify issues and to provide leadership on any activity which is deemed appropriate to the IEC in the interests of the egg industry.
